![]() Uninstalling the Western Digital Lifeguard software (located in C:\Program Files) did not help.Īnyway, the backup drive C: image fixed the Zonalarm and Opera problems, I reformated (using DOS) both partitions on the new HD. So I put back a drive C: backup image I made just before the new HD installation, but I had to disconnect the new HD because Drive Image 4.0 would not start up with an error message that Disk Manager was detected on drive 1, (the new HD I assume, since the primary HD is usually designated drive 0) and Disk Manager is not running, and that I had to do some special disk bootup procedures (which did not work). Reinstallation of Zonalarm and Opera did not help. Several days after I installed the new Western Digital 40 GB HD, I started having some problems with Internet access in that the computer stalls for long periods of time, likely due with Zonalarm 3.7.202 (very high CPU use) that I'm using and also with Opera 7.21 startup. My questions is, what is the significance of the Norton Disk Doctor boot record error message, should I do anything about it before I attempt to install Win2000 onto the second HD? Should I let Norton Disk Doctor attempt to fix what it says are the errors? Since I don't seem to have any access problems and the second HD partitions are not boot disks, I haven't done anything yet to correct the reported error. When I ran Norton Disk Doctor (from Norton Systemworks 2001) on the new HD, it gives a "Invalid Disk Table in Boot Record" error message for each partition and offers to fix the problem but the message also says that I should do so only if I have problems properly accessing the HD. Now Win98SE sees the right size partitions and I have no problems copying files to either partition. ![]() 19 GB partitions)/formatted it with Western Digitial's Lifeguard software and rebooted. ![]() The installation appears to be successful in that BIOS identified the new HD model on one of the bootup screens after installation, although Win98SE did not see the new HD until after I partitioned (into two approx. I have Dell Dimension XPS T500 with a Western Digital 20 GB, and have just installed a new Western Digital 40 GB onto the second connector on the original data cable. ![]()
